Provence in October – Gorgeous Gordes

Gorgeous Gordes is the possibly the swishest town in Provence. We arrived just in time for the weekly market and even managed to drive straight through it. What a way to make an entrance!

The market was full of stalls with expensive produce and crafts. And the usual tacky fare mixed in with fantastic local food and art. We bought some chicken and potatoes from a stall and ate our picnic by the fountain in the main square. soaking up the midday sun we watched the world go by and listened to the gentle wave of voices and cars and birdsong.

The food stall owner was Canadian and her boyfriend was English. They take their stall to a different town each day – following the market to sell their fare.  On a day like today and being a city dweller, I couldn’t help but be a little jealous of what seemed like a lovely life!

The sun slowly warmed up the town to shorts and jumper temperatures.

We pottered around and checked out all the little backstreets before heading back to our B&B, which was a 15 minute walk from town.

I especially loved that our B&B included breakfast with the room. Many of the places we have stayed in France don’t offer this and you have to pay extortionate prices to eat out.

Despite this – we absolutely loved it here!

Next up: Spectacular hiking in the Gorge Du Verdon – the French equivalent to the Grand Canyon!
